Nurturing Wisdom in Our Children
Our children are growing up in a generation that requires wisdom that can only come from the Throne of God. What Daniel and his friends experienced in Babylon is very close to what is going on in our generation. As Daniel 2:23 (AMPC) says, “I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers, Who has given me wisdom and might and has made known to me now what we desired of You, for You have made known to us the solution to the king’s problem.”
We are living in times of unprecedented change and influence, and our children are faced with choices that are often beyond their years. This is the time to seek godly wisdom, and as God has promised in His word, James 1:5 (AMPC): “If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him.” And when we ask, we are sure that we will receive because that is His promise. Matthew 7:7 (AMPC): “Keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened to you.”
As parents, we are faced with the decision of impacting our children’s destinies. Whether we actively take action to do this or not, the children are learning something every day—the question is: what are they learning? Who is influencing them? What impact will those lessons have on their lives?
The Gift of Children
Children are a precious gift from God. Each child is unique and has a specific purpose and potential. Recognizing this helps us to nurture them in a way that aligns with God’s plan for their lives. As parents, it is our responsibility to guide them towards fulfilling their God-given potential.
Praying for Wisdom
Praying for wisdom for our children is crucial. We want them to excel not only academically but also in making wise decisions. Wisdom helps them navigate the complexities of life and make choices that honor God. Encourage your children to seek wisdom from God, reminding them of the promise in James 1:5.
Protection and Guidance
Surrounding our children with God’s protection is essential. Pray for them to find the right friends and avoid negative influences. Teach them to discern right from wrong and to seek God’s guidance in their daily lives. Proverbs 13:20 AMPC says, He who walks [as a companion] with wise men is wise, but he who associates with [self-confident] fools is [a fool himself and] shall smart for it.
Dependence on God
Teaching children to depend on God in all circumstances is vital. Share practical ways to encourage them to seek God’s guidance, such as through prayer, reading the Bible, and attending church. Help them understand that God is their anchor during every storm they experience in life.
Nurturing wisdom in our children is a continuous process that requires prayer, guidance, and dependence on God. As parents, our efforts in raising wise children will glorify God and help them navigate the challenges of life with confidence and faith. Let us commit to praying for our children’s wisdom and well-being, trusting that God will guide them every step of the way.
